Community Support Advocate (Stanford North)
Full-Time (40 hours/week), Hourly, Non-Exempt.

Reporting to the Community Support Manager, the Community Support Advocate (Stanford North) provides advocacy support to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking in North Santa Clara County, including Stanford University.
- Provides direct advocacy, crisis counseling, safety planning, case management, community referrals to members of the North Santa Clara County and the Stanford community impacted by sexual assault and relationship violence both in-person and on the phone using a strengths-based, client-centered, trauma-informed approach
- Advocates for survivors with outside agencies and community organizations, including, but not limited to,
- Stanford University: Stanford Staff in the Confidential Support Team, Title IX Office, Residential Education, Employee Labor Relations, Stanford Police, or other University entities identified by survivor
- North Santa Clara County: Local law enforcement, SAFE nurses, and the District Attorney’s Office
- Provides support throughout all stages of the criminal justice and/or University reporting process, including investigation and disciplinary proceedings, accompaniment to law enforcement and district attorney interviews, and court.
- Manages a caseload of survivors of sexual assault and relationship violence; assess advocacy service needs; arrange, coordinate and monitor the delivery of individualized services
- Provides conflict resolution, when needed
- Identifies barriers to services and advocate for service provisions with the University and/or external service organizations to eliminate those barriers
- Conducts intakes, on-going screenings and assessments of survivors need, and connects survivor with internal and external resources to meet changing needs
- Assists in facilitating department trainings and community presentations, as needed
- Case coordination and program operations with University staff
- Additional duties, as assigned
- Maintains accurate, current, and confidential records of client services in internal database
- Participates in ongoing trainings
- Meets regularly with YWCA Community Support Team (North) to share general information about services provided, gaps in service, and overall effectiveness of campus response
Participates in campus-based meetings focused on sexual assault and brings relevant information back to the Community Support team.
We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and reliable individual with a high level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence. Essential to this role is a demonstrated ability working with culturally and economically diverse individuals and families and ability to work with those impacted by trauma; a demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment and to respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills to work independently and as part of a team. You must have an understanding of feminism and a strong commitment to social justice. Additionally, an ideal candidate will possess knowledge of and sensitivity to domestic violence and sexual assault issues, trauma, gender equity and client-centered service provision.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree or college course work in a social services field or equivalent combination of education and experience as well as a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a social justice or social services environment. Key to success is the ability to be present in a changing work environment; the ability to work independently and the ability to make decisions appropriately, prioritize effectively and model healthy boundaries with empathy and compassion. Candidates should be competent in using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), and comfort using proprietary data systems for client data entry.
The ideal candidate is a warm, self-starter deeply committed to providing services from a strengths-based, social justice and anti-oppression framework. Prior advocacy-based counseling and case management experience is a plus. Bilingual, bi-cultural and bi-literate skills are preferred.
Work hours include weekends and some evenings. Schedule TBD. The Community Support Advocate (Stanford North) will work primarily on Stanford University Campus and the YWCA North Santa Clara County satellite offices, with additional work in the community. Must have reliable transportation, as travel between job sites is required. Delivery of service may include time beyond scheduled hours to accomplish tasks at hand. On-call duties are required. Work includes lifting up to 30 pounds. Susceptible to compassion fatigue and/or vicarious trauma.
Required: Cleared background check (fingerprinting), valid TB test, valid California driver’s license and auto insurance. Must have completed or be willing to complete a 65-hour California State Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counselor certification. (Training will be provided).
