Welcoming Denise Aquilante Johnson as New Board President

San Jose, CA, July 22, 2026 — YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley is pleased to announce the appointment of Denise Aquilante Johnson, MBA, BSN, RN, CENP, as Board President, effective July 2026.
A longtime board member and experienced healthcare executive, Johnson brings more than three decades of leadership experience spanning clinical care, operational strategy, and community-centered service. She first joined the YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley Board of Directors in 2017 and previously served as Vice President.
Johnson retired from Kaiser Permanente Northern California after serving as Executive Director of Continuum Care Coordination, where she led complex healthcare initiatives focused on improving outcomes and strengthening systems of care. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her collaborative leadership style and her commitment to mentoring future leaders.
Her connection to YWCA’s mission is both professional and deeply personal.
“My journey with YWCA felt like a natural fit because the organization’s mission to eliminate racism and empower women mirrors the values I lived and led by throughout my career,” Johnson said. “Growing up in an at-risk family, I experienced many of the social determinants of health that shape people’s opportunities and outcomes. Those experiences continue to drive my commitment to improving the lived experience of others.”
As Board President, Johnson will work closely with CEO Adriana Caldera-Boroffice and the Board Executive Leadership team to strengthen community partnerships, support long-term organizational sustainability, and continue ensuring leadership reflects the diversity and values at the heart of YWCA’s mission.
“The need for YWCA’s work has never been greater,” Johnson said. “We have built deep trust with the communities we serve, and that foundation positions us not only to weather challenges, but to continue growing and building.”
Johnson’s leadership and service have earned numerous recognitions, including Kaiser Permanente’s Extraordinary Nurse Award and Women of Influence, Silicon Valley.
“As YWCA continues responding to growing community needs and evolving challenges, Denise’s leadership comes at an important time for our organization,” said Adriana Caldera-Boroffice, CEO of YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley. “I look forward to partnering with Denise as we continue advancing equity and expanding our impact across the four counties we serve.”
