Therapy Services

While YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley helps with a broad range of matters, we specialize in issues relating to family and/or sexual violence. We provide therapy for individuals and families affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, child abuse or any other crisis situation that interferes with their ability to feel empowered and in control of choices and responses in all areas of life.

Our vision is that community members at the intersections of racism, violence, and trauma find healing and community through our continuum of Healing Services. Services are holistic, multidimensional, trauma-responsive, grounded in the lived experience of survivors, and seamlessly integrated with other YWCA services.

Our therapists are Master’s level marriage and family therapy, social work associates and trainees working under the supervision of licensed therapists. We provide trauma-informed, client-centered, strength- based and culturally-sensitive therapy services in a safe and confidential environment.

Our therapy services are no cost.

WHAT WE DO

THERAPIST TRAINING

We develop high-quality, well-informed, self-aware, and compassionate therapists.

The same systemic barriers that discourage people of color from seeking services discourage people of color from becoming healing professionals. In the San Jose metro area, there is one white mental health professional per 100 white individuals, one Latinx mental health professional per 127 Latina/o/x individuals, and one Asian mental health professional per 264 Asian individuals.

We train mental health professionals to provide culturally-appropriate, trauma-focused therapy services that are both client- driven and strength-based. Through our program, therapists will be ready to help those struggling with the aftermath of child abuse, domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, and generational trauma.

Our Therapist Training program is limited to students currently enrolled in a master’s program with a focus on MFT, PCC or SW.

CLINICAL TRAINING TOPICS INCLUDE

  • The Neurobiology of Trauma and Effective Interventions
  • The Impact of Family and Sexual Violence on Individuals and Society
  • Vicarious Trauma and Self-care
  • Grounding and Containment
  • Grief and Loss
  • Gender Affirmative Therapy
  • Using Sandplay
  • Expressive Art Therapies
  • The Effects of Substance Use
  • Immigration Issues and Its Impact on Mental Health
  • Positive Termination
